Effects of this medicine

This histamine H2-receptor antagonist inhibits gastric acid secretion and cures ulcer, inflammation, bleeding, etc.
It is usually used to treat symptoms caused by gastric/duodenal/anastomotic ulcer, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, reflux esophagitis, upper gastrointestinal bleeding, and gastritis.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you ever experienced any allergic reaction (itch, rash etc.) to any medicine.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • For the treatment of gastric/duodenal ulcer: In general, for adults, take 2 tablets (800mg of the active ingredient) in 2 divided doses a day after breakfast and before bedtime. Alternatively, you can take it once a day before bedtime, or in 4 divided doses a day after every meal and before bedtime.
    For the treatment of anastomotic ulcer, reflux esophagitis, upper gastrointestinal bleeding, etc.: In general, for adults, take 2 tablets (800mg of the active ingredient) in 2 divided doses a day after breakfast and before bedtime. Alternatively, you can take it in 4 divided doses a day after every meal and before bedtime.
    For the treatment of acute gastritis and acutely exacerbated chronic gastritis: In general, for adults, take 1 tablet (400mg of the active ingredient) in 2 divided doses a day after breakfast and before bedtime. Alternatively, you can take it once a day before bedtime.
    In each case, the dose may be adjusted according to your age and symptoms. Strictly follow the instructions of your doctor/pharmacist.
  • If you missed a dose, take the missed dose as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule as follows: In case of 4 divided doses a day, do not take the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. In case of 2 divided doses a day, wait more than 5 hours before the next dose. In case the dose is once a day, wait more than 8 hours before the next dose. DO NOT take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.
  • If you took too much of this medicine (more than prescribed), check with your doctor/pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine without the instructions of your doctor.

Precautions while taking this medicine

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include constipation, rash, gynecomastia, galactopoiesis, increase of white vaginal discharge, erectile dysfunction, peripheral neuropathy (pain/sensory paralysis/motor disorder of the limbs). If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • cold sweat, facial pallor, respiratory distress [shock, anaphylactoid symptoms]
  • anemic condition, general malaise, sore throat [aplastic anemia, pancytopenia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia]
  • fever, rash, decreased urinary volume [interstitial nephritis, acute renal failure]
  • fever, loss of appetite, erythema/blister spreading across a wide area [mucocutaneous ocular syndrome, toxic epidermal necrosis]
  • general malaise, loss of appetite, nausea [hepatopathy]
